Nilotica Shea Community Foundation Uganda is a Community Based Organization registered with the Kitgum District Community Development Officer under Uganda's Local Governments Act, Cap. 243. Our registered office is located in Kitgum District, and our operations focus on the Vitellaria nilotica producing sub counties of the Nile Basin shea belt.
We operate with the governance discipline, transparency, and reporting standards expected by district authorities, national regulators, and international partners alike — while remaining deeply embedded in the communities we serve.
“Advance the economic empowerment of women shea harvesters and processors, protect and restore Vitellaria nilotica ecosystems, and strengthen resilient rural livelihoods through sustainable natural resource management and internationally compliant shea value chains.”

Akello has harvested shea nuts beneath the same Vitellaria nilotica trees her grandmother once walked. For years, falling prices, encroachment, and charcoal cutting threatened both her income and the trees themselves.
Through our cooperative programme she joined a women-led savings group, completed post-harvest quality training, and helped GPS-map more than 200 mature shea trees on her sub-county's communal land. Her household income has risen, and her cooperative is preparing its first EUDR-documented batch for export.
“We used to think the trees would always be here,” she says. “Now we count them, we name the old ones, and we plant new ones.”
